Friendship Community Lifesharing

Lifesharing Informational Night on Wednesday, June 2nd at 6:30 pm at FC offices.

The Lifesharing Program matches individuals with developmental disabilities with people who are willing to open their lives and homes for a long term commitment.

Friendship Community is seeking providers for its Lifesharing program.

Lifesharing is an exciting way to impact the life of a person with disabilities. All Lifesharing providers receive 24-hour support and continuous training.  If you are interested in learning more about what being a Lifesharing Provider means, call Jen Strausser at (717) 656-2466, ext. 161.

Why Lifesharing?  "Because I can serve God from my home" , "Because it gives me an opportunity to enrich my children's lives with relationships" , "Because I have an empty room in my house and room in my life to share with someone."

Who can become a Lifesharing Provider?  You need to be 21 years or older, have an extra bedroom available and be willing to make a commitment to share your life.

How are you matched?  Friendship Community is committed to finding the best possible match for Lifesharing Providers and Individuals.  Preferences such as whether Providers would like a male or female, if the Individual likes children or petsare taken into serious consideration.  Once a match seems right, meetings and visits are scheduled.  Upon commitment to life-sharing, a placement date is scheduled.

What are the responsibilities of Lifesharing Providers?

  • To provide a stable, enriched home life.

  • To provide well-balanced meals

  • To teach daily living skills

  • To provide transportation

  • To participate in program meetings

  • To maintain the regulations required, including annual inspections.

How long do people participate in Lifesharing?  Friendship asks that Lifesharing Providers agree to a minimum 2 year commitment.  However, the goal of Lifesharing is for a much longer commitment.

Are Life Sharing Providers compensated?  Lifesharing Providers receive between $1200-$3600 per month, depending on the needs of the Individual.  The primary funding for this program is through Lancaster County's Mental Health/Mental Retardation Program.

How do I become a Life Sharing Provider?

  1. Contact the Lifesharing Coordinator, Brian Luzier at 717-656-2466 ext 171.

  2. An interview will be arranged.

  3. Criminal background checks will be done on anyone over 18 years old living in your home and references will be checked.

  4. There will be additional interview times and visits to your home.

  5. The Lifesharing Committee will evaluate and approve Life Sharing Providers.

  6. Providers will attend orientation and training sessions.
