TITLE: Associate Director of Advancement

BASIC INFORMATION: Associate Director of Advancement shall work a varied and flexible full-time in-office schedule based on 40 hours per week. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Limited (<10%) overnight travel via air or personal vehicle required. The supervisor for this role is the Director of Advancement. This position does not have direct reports.

DEFINITION: The Associate Director of Advancement is responsible to The Director of Advancement. The Associate Director is a key frontline member of the Advancement team and plays a critical role in achieving Friendship Community’s goals.

The Associate Director is an Advancement/Development Professional who will assist the Executive Director of Advancement in strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate, foundation, and individual donors through sponsorship, corporate, and foundation-giving opportunities and major gifts. They will increase the visibility of Friendship Community through Marketing Development, Volunteer Outreach, and Community Partnership Efforts. This position requires strong relationship-building skills, strategic thinking, and a commitment to driving sustainable revenue growth in support of Friendship Community’s Mission.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the Director of Advancement.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Relationship Management and Solicitation

      (including but not limited to the following)

  1. Meet specific annual fundraising goals and contact metrics set with the Director of Advancement.
  2. Generate, build, and lead a robust portfolio of corporate, foundation, and individual prospects, with a focus on general operating support, programmatic efforts, and strategic initiatives.
  3. Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle from initiating contacts through stewardship.
  4. Research and identify new donor prospects, including grants, sponsorships, and major gifts.
  5. Attend public events to build relationships with potential donors and help share Friendship Community’s mission and work.
  6. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing donors through regular communication, meetings, and reporting.
  7. Collaborate with staff to develop compelling proposals, reports, and presentations for donors.
  8. In support of the Director of Advancement, Executive Team, and other Friendship Community colleagues, manage the annual schedule of grant deadlines. Work in partnership with subject matter experts and Friendship Community’s grant writer to complete and submit grant applications for organizations and individuals within the Associate Director’s portfolio.
  9. Coordinate and manage workplace-giving campaigns with Friendship Community’s corporate partners.
  10. Track all interactions and deadlines with current and prospective donors in the donor database.
  11. Ensure all donors within the portfolio receive timely reporting and stewardship, including fulfillment of sponsorship benefits.
  12. Appropriately include the Director of Advancement, CEO, Executive Team, and other colleagues in the cultivation and stewardship of donors within the portfolio, including preparing prep sheets and leading prep meetings
  13. Provide leadership in managing and cultivating volunteers on behalf of Friendship Community. Will execute various tasks aligning with the mission and vision of Friendship Community and Friendship Community’s brand and to increase its volunteer base.  Plan for creative volunteer involvement with the fundraising events and activities to promote the mission and vision of Friendship Community.
  14. Development of Marketing and Communications Materials for Friendship Community. Accountable for fulfilling communications responsibilities including promotion of events, advertising, digital media postings, community engagement, and creation of promotional materials.

 

GENERAL DUTIES

  1. Serve as an active participant and leader in Friendship Community’s belonging, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion goals and contribute to building a culture where every employee is fully valued.
  2. Participate in the creation of the annual advancement plan and metrics for corporate and foundation relations and major gifts.
  3. Assist the Director of Advancement in preparing regular reports on fundraising progress, including revenue forecasts, donor cultivation activities, and outcomes achieved.
  4. Monitor online and print publications for news, trends, and public and private requests for proposals, evaluating them for relevance to Friendship Community’s mission.
  5. Assist with the advancement of individual giving campaigns.
  6. Collaborate on the preparation for the annual Fest and fundraising events.
  7. Represent Friendship Community at events and business gatherings that have strong potential to produce partnership opportunities and increase our network.
  8. Provide grant support, including research and writing.
  9. Build and nurture positive, collaborative working relationships with Friendship Community colleagues.
  10. Participate in Friendship Community special events.
  11. Other duties and special projects as identified.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Committed to the Mission and Vision of Friendship Community and exhibits a passion for changing the lives of Individuals with Intellectual Disability/Autism.
  2. Minimum of three years experience in advancement (with a focus on non-profit relations preferred) and a proven track record of securing five-plus-figure corporate gifts.
  3. Experience working with volunteers, community and business leaders, and interdisciplinary teams.
  4. Experience in non-profit-related fundraising preferred.
  5. Highly computer literate with knowledge of Donor Perfect or other donor-tracking software

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  1. Able to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment; able to remain stationary at a computer for extended periods of time and move around assigned workspace.
  2. Ability to work in open office format. Friendship Community’s office design is an open format and the noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
  3. Occasionally move up to 10 pounds and rarely move up to 20 pounds

  14. Experience with databases and spreadsheets required
